The Route.

Get ready for the Bickerton Hill Circular Walk – a perfect blend of nature's wonders and historical gems. Leave the pushchair at home for this sandstone path adventure, which, while not overly challenging, does have some rocky and steep stretches.

  1. Woodland Ascent

Pass through gates and follow the obvious path uphill. Brace yourself for the steepest part of the walk as you ascend through picturesque woodlands.

  2. Bickerton Hill Viewpoint

As the woodlands give way, you’ll find yourself at the Bickerton Hill Viewpoint. Take a moment to enjoy breathtaking views across the Cheshire Plain and beyond. But, keep a close eye on little explorers; you're now on a plateau, with steep drops surrounding you.

  3. Larkton Hill

At the "crossroads," turn right through sandstone crevices to reach Larkton Hill Viewpoint. Uncover the history of Maiden Castle and relax on a conveniently placed bench as you soak up the breathtaking views.

  4. Hether Wood Descent

Bear right and descend into Hether Wood, continuing the counter-clockwise loop around the base of Bickerton Hill.

  5. National Trust Car Park

Follow the woodland path to a country lane that leads to the National Trust car park. Instead of taking a left to the car park, take a right and admire your surroundings as you pass by Larkton Hall Cottage.

  6. Final Stretch

As you reach Goldford Lane, take a left and follow the road back to your starting point. This stretch offers a chance to daydream as you pass by impressive houses with dreamy views.

The Bickerton Hill Circular Walk is more than just a stroll; it's an adventure through woodlands, viewpoints, and history. So, gear up for a journey where every step unfolds a new chapter in the captivating story of Cheshire's natural beauty.

Bickerton Hill Car Park.

I like to start the walk oppostie the church on Goldford Lane (what3words: ///song.fizzle.eruptions). There are a few car park spaces here and you can access the woodlands directly. (See map above).

If this is full, you can continue along Goldford Lane, and turn right down a country lane, where you’ll find the Bickerton Hill National Trust Car Park (what3words:///ripen.irritated.cost). This car park is free and has plenty of spaces. Just bear in mind the starting point of your walk will be slightly different.

There is also a smaller National Trust Car Park located off Old Coach Road (what3words: ///concluded.lends.incurring). However I’ve found this car park to fill up quickly and the road to access it can be a bit of a nightmare.
